Smells Associated With Air Travel

6:26 AM

A person that has never boarded an airline flight might be surprised by the number of smells associated with air travel. They will become keenly aware of these smells when they enter the airline terminal and wonder why there are such an abundant number of them in one place. If the traveler had considered how many people come through an airport in a days time, they might gain some understanding about why there are strange odors in every place that they go.

Most travelers choose to unload luggage at the front of the airport before they attempt to find parking. There are a significant number of smells that are emitted from car exhaust fumes and these smells will usually be from diesel engines or those that use gasoline. No traveler has entered an airport terminal without being exposed to these exhausts emissions and its no wonder why some are lightheaded throughout a airline flight.

When they enter the terminal and approach an airline counter to check in for a flight, a traveler might get a whiff of liquor and coffee at the same time. In many airport terminals there is certain to be quite a few smells that are emitted from the various restaurants and it will depend on the time of the day which smells are the strongest to a traveler that has never flown before.

The liquor smells are usually prevalent in many areas of the airport because there are bars in each airline debarkation point. These areas also serve some sort of sandwich and the smells coming from these bars will often be surrounded by the noise from the televisions that passengers view as they wait for the final call to board a flight. Some passengers are sensitive to smells that come from people.

There are many scents that surround a traveler that might seem floral for a moment and then change to musk in a matter of seconds. These aromas are ever-changing because female passengers use a varying assortment of perfumes and colognes. The scents and smells get even more intense when the male population reaches a boarding area because they are emitting scents from colognes and shaving creams.

Some air travelers can get quite nauseated by the smells that they encounter during their travels. They are overcome by the closed in quarters on the aircraft that uses recirculation systems for the air within the cabin. This often causes a stale air smell that will permeate the clothing of an air traveler and be with them for the duration of the trip. Hence, more travelers choose to use more perfumes and colognes to hide the stench that these smells cause.

Wild Wild West! Find Out All About Bakersfield California.

6:26 AM

One might think of Bakersfield, California as a remote and simple town where working class families devote their lives to tradition and self satisfaction. But according to the major census sites and other observations, Bakersfield, California is a workable area and one of the 'fastest growing of the larger cities in the United States.'

After Fresno and Sacramento, for instance, Bakersfield is the third largest inland city, equally workable economically Bakersfield, California survive on agriculture and petroleum processing (by way of one of the older oil spots, the 100 year old Kern River Field) and the growing of such crops as carrots, grapes, almonds, citrus, potatoes, and garlic.

The burgeoning yet still conservative Bakersfield, California shows a 2000 population of 247,057 people with a median age of 30, a population which works the farm and the fields but also earns its median income of between $39,982 and $45,556 in the educational, health, social services, and retail fields approximately 66% staying in town for work.

With ranging temperatures of between 40 and 100 degrees throughout the year, Bakersfield, California also features historic restaurants (such as Luigi's, Maitia's, Noriega's,
Pyrenees, and Woolgrower's) a popular series of sports (the ever popular football, baseball, ice hockey, and soccor, as well as the renowned motor sports which have a major following) and world renowned country music, which, evidently, brought such icons as Buck Owens and Merles Haggard to the area to create a unique type of music they call the 'Bakersfield Sound.'

Bakersfield, California is also known well as being the birthplace of Haggard, as well as of Detroit Lions' Brock Marion, Detroit Tigers' Colby Lewis, Washington Redskins' Cory Hall, Playboy's Rebekka Armstrong, and NASCAR's Casey Mears as being the birthplace of Korn members as being the nearby locale of the infamous deaths of policemen celebrate in The Onion Field as being the home to such greats as US Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren, country crooner Dwight Yoakum, and child star Brandon Cruz, and as having a status which is mentioned, described, defined, and alluded to in the artwork of everyone from Henry Rollins to The Rolling Stones to Johnny Cash.

And, for those of us who have a simple understanding of Bakersfield, California, we might credit our impressions
to Steinbeck, who show the town and its neighboring landscapes in The Grapes of anger. At the same time, however, Bakersfield has flourished, and has evolved from being the historical establishment housed by Native Americans, then missionaries, then gold miners and pioneers and Oakies living off the simple land to a major city with major industry and development.

The Best Of Mexico Honeymoon Places Is The One & Only Palmilla Where You Can Go Whale Watching In The Pacific Ocean Near Baja

6:26 AM

We chose The One & Only Palmilla as the Best of Mexico honeymoon places purely by what we had read online, and because of the conversations we had with the hotel staff. To say we were pleased with our choice would be an understatement, because not only was the resort everything we could have asked for and more, there were two other bonuses we had not even bargained for.

The first was to be able not only to go whale watching in the Pacific Ocean near Baja, in fact off the beach close to the resort, but in addition the One & Only Palmilla Spa cuisine.

I think it will be the image of the whale I will remember forever, but the One & Only Palmilla came a very close second.

The Palmilla is an extraordinary resort from the food, the ambience, the lovely suite, the butler, the golf course, and of course the prices!!

This isn't a cheap , but when a girl is on her honeymoon at the very best of Mexico honeymoon places, who cares what it costs. Drinks and food are expensive, even allowing for huge portions, and enough alcohol to drown a sailor, but hopefully the prices keep out the kind of people you don't really want to be in a resort with!!

I digress from describing the One & Only Palmilla, but it is important to know these things.

The service is incredible, and it never ends. You are taken to your room in a Hummer, introduced to your butler, who is your s and totally yours alone. He will get you whatever you want, from reservations, to ice, drinks wherever you are. Nothing is too much trouble, and sometimes we felt embarrassed to ask!!

You can even get a sniff of oxygen by the pool, or your sunglasses brought, even a room upgrade, to find he has placed all your clothes exactly where they were, just in the new room.

The suites are fantastic, with living room, bedroom, and huge bathroom, and a very large patio, with a rain shower, loads of products which are replenished frequently. Great beds, a day bed on the patio, and not only a wonderful ocean view, but even a whale watching telescope!!

The infinity pool is fabulous, beautiful beach, stunning grounds, and food to die for. The spa is phenomenal with a relaxation area with a hot and cold plunge pool.

I have to finish with the food. Every meal was a joy, there wasn't a bad meal during our stay.

Premier And Luxurious Dubai Hotels

6:26 AM

Jumeirah owns the Emirates Towers hotel, the Jumeirah Beach hotel, the Madinat group of hotels, which includes Mina A Salam, Al Qasr & the Madinat Souk which houses the largest swimming pool in the Middle East. Jumeirah also owns the amazing desert hotel, Bab Al Shams, located in the desert with sand dunes rolling from its perimeters and making a fantastic landscape for the falcon shows and camel riding they offer.

All Jumeirah hotels have amazing architecture and are worth a visit for this alone. This, together with their famous customer service values, makes them a great choice for visitors to Dubai. For a true taste of Arabia, visit the Madinat Souk, part of the Madinat and Mina A Salam complex located on Jumeirah beach. This resort offers 42 restaurants overlooking the Burj Al Arab and each is situated on the edge of their very own canal. Watch the dhows transport the hotel guests around this vast complex on their waterways and lagoon. It really is a beautiful spot for a sundowner or a meal incorporating food from all over the world.

There are many other famous branded hotels in Dubai, from The One and Only Royal Mirage to Hiltons, Sheratons (both beach and airport locations), the Kempinski Group, Shangri La Group and Crown Plaza among many others. Most hotels are at 5 star standard, however there are some lower cost hotels such as the 4 star Al Manzil hotel, located behind the world's tallest building the Burj Dubai nestling in its own Arabian style architecture and complementing the huge sky rise buildings surrounding it.

The Grosvenor House hotel located in Dubai Marina is a fantastic venue for staying or visiting their restaurants and bars. Have a drink in Bar 44 located on the 44th floor of the hotel and offering amazing views of the Marina area, and then take the express lift down to the fabulous Buddha Bar for a fusion of Thai and international cuisine.

All 5 star hotels in Dubai have pools, gyms and restaurant facilities with many offering spa areas as well. Of course the cr?me de la cr?me of spa facilities has to be located within the 7 star hotels of the Burj Al Arab, where reservations are recommended and the environment is so much part of the treatment you will never want to leave!

Many hotels also offer apartment facilities so if you are here longer term and want to experience more of the home comforts, these are a great option.

Other companies capitalizing on the huge tourism market here are with their Versace Palazzo hotel and the Trump Towers hotel (located on the famous Palm Island). Versace should be opening its doors to the international elite during 2008 with the Trump Tower hotel opening scheduled to be around early 2010.

Ranging from amazing desert hotels, luxury beach hotels and fantastic corporate hotels in the city, Dubai offers an eclectic mix to choose from. However, all are within close proximity of all tourist facilities, shopping malls and attractions as well as its fantastic beaches - you can't go far wrong with any location. Most city business hotels located along Sheikh Zayed road also have affiliations with beach hotels and will transport you to the beach during your stay.

Five Grand Cayman Scuba Diving Sites To Visit

6:26 AM

With around 250 Grand Cayman diving sites to choose from, picking a couple of sites for a one-week vacation can be confusing. With the diverse array of fishes and corals found in every dive site, it's very difficult to resist viewing the features of each. For fish lovers, a diverse array of fishes and corals await them underwater. The wreck divers, on the other hand, can choose from a variety of wreckages with an eerie atmosphere that will definitely send chills down a person's spine.

Stingray City

Located in the northwest corner of the Grand Cayman's North Sound is one of the best Grand Cayman scuba diving sites. Inside a natural channel which goes through the barrier reef is Stingray City, a dive site that has been shown in cruise ship commercials and featured in dive magazines. In this world-famous shallow dive, one can kneel on the sand and feed or pet the stingrays. Even better, these graceful creatures swirl around divers, giving them a fantastic show. This is definitely a wonderful place for taking underwater pictures.

Wreck Diving

Wrecks can be viewed in some Grand Cayman scuba diving sites. One of the famous wrecks in Grand Cayman is the Oro Verde, an 84-foot steel freighter which was scuttled and sunk by the Caymanian government in May 31, 1980. Since then, this ship has been inhabited by a lot of extraordinary characters like a 300-lb jew fish named George, a six-foot green moray named Kermit and four-foot barracuda named Puff. In this area, some yellow tail snappers and angel fish may also swim by for a bite.

Big Tunnels

Another must-see Grand Cayman scuba diving site is the big tunnels. The coral formations in the drop off are quite unique. It looks like Neptune himself scratched the area with his trident. With networks of canyons and crevasses, it is a home to the barrel sponge, the black coral, gray angels and eagle rays. The trinity caves are also located in this area. Here, one can see a system of four coral canyons that converge on the surface of a vertical wall.

Eagle Ray Pass

Located in the North Wall, this is another Grand Canyon diving site that one should not miss. Formed by towering coral heads, coral archways and narrow crevices, this pass is a home to a lot of sponges, gorgonian fans and black corals. A lot of Spotted Eagle Rays also swim along the surface of the wall.

The West Wall

This is the most popular Grand Cayman diving site. It has a large variety of fish and other marine life. Here, divers can enjoy looking at schools of grunts, snappers and angelfish. Another wonderful feature of this site is that the creatures here are quite friendly. Because most of them are not camera-shy, many divers enjoy taking pictures of the fish in this area. Close to this area, a site called Orange Canyon is a great place to visit. Here, one can see tons of orange elephant ear sponges.

Being a place with warm and clear waters that have a visibility of 100 feet above, going to these diving sites would definitely be a great experience.

Where To Play Golf In Europe's Winter

6:27 AM

Europe's winter can be down time for less intrepid golfers, and many avoid the winter chill and opt for a golfing holiday in southern destinations. Whether it's a trip to the nearby Canary Islands or Cyprus, or a longer journey to Mauritius, a relaxing game of golf in the sunshine is the perfect antidote to the winter blues. Just imagine, in just a few hours you could be on a green with the sun on your back.

Cyprus offers golf and more
Cyprus is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean and its warm climate makes golfing a pleasure year-round. Scenic pine-clad mountains and a stunning coastline form a backdrop to its excellent golf courses. If you fancy a touch of luxury, stay at the Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel and you'll have good access to the island's 3 golf courses as well as the charming old town of Paphos. The many local vineyards offer wine tasting and there are excellent dining options outside of the hotel.

The oldest course in Cyprus, the Tsada Golf Club, with its undulating, natural fairways, runs through fruit orchards and vineyards. It is a par 72 course set 500 metres above sea level, that would suit both high and low handicappers. At the nearby par 72 Secret Valley course, well-maintained fairways are well separated. The newest course, Aphrodite Hills is set on cliffs above a beach and is surrounded by forest. The par 71 course is divided by a deep ravine.

Canary Islands - a winter golfing favourite
Gran Canaria is a fantastic winter golf destination, and the historic par 72 Real Club de Golf Tenerife in the north of the most popular of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, is the second oldest golf club in Spain. The club is situated at 600 metres above sea level, with well-established trees, rolling fairways and deep cliffs, and accuracy is the name of the game here. But since there are six golf courses on Tenerife, you'll have a chance to try more than one. Par 72 Abama, set amongst thousands of trees, is winding and tactical with 22 lakes to get over or around. Preference is given to residents of the Abama Resort.

Gran Canaria, known for its beaches, is evolving as an excellent golf destination and there are now five courses. The par 7 Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, in the centre of the island, is the oldest golf club in Spain. Located next to the crater of an old volcano, its short course, with its narrow fairways and small greens, require accuracy more than power. Near to the city of Las Palmas, the par 72 El Cortijo Club de Campo is dotted with lakes and features views of the ocean.

Mauritius - golfing in paradise
This idyllic Indian Ocean island, with its white sandy beaches, offers golfers a choice of three courses. Belle Mare Plage a luxurious four-star golf resort, sited on a beach protected by an offshore coral reef, has two championship courses. The demanding Legend Course has two sets of 18 holes, with fairways lined with trees, and greens with spectacular backdrops. The relatively new par 71 The Links Course includes a practice fairway and a tough uphill fairway with a water trap. The hotel also offers a variety of water sports. All the well-appointed rooms have sea views.

Rental Trucks Amid High Fuel Prices Still Best Moving Value

6:26 AM

Renting a truck and doing a self move, even in the face of what look to be new record high fuel prices is still one of the best moving values going. Truck rentals are also a better fit for a busy schedule.

Planning to make a self move with a rental truck can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars over full service moving companies. The option to rent a truck and do the packing and loading is one that more and more people are taking advantage of every day. There may be times when hiring a professional moving company makes perfect sense. But there are certainly times when it makes no sense at all. When thousands of dollars in savings can be realized by rental truck use verses hiring a professional is surely one to consider. Sure there is more work to do with a self move, but then again, not everyone has money to burn.

Fuel Prices driving toward the 3 dollar a gallon mark again have not removed Rental trucks from being a top option for saving money when moving and the reasons are many. Today's fleets of modern Rental trucks are designed to be more energy efficient as well as user friendly. Modern rental trucks that sport the latest in engine and chassis design mean better gas mileage which in turn means savings for the customer.

Also the newer rental trucks and equipment, with the aid of sophisticated onboard computer systems are able to warn customers about potential or existing problems with the engine, transmission and electrical system, making rental trucks safer and more convenient then ever before. Also these new systems help the fleet company keep costs down by helping service technicians keep down time to a minimum. More time in service relates to big savings to the companies, of which most are willing to share with the customer in the way of extra customer care and support services, which in turns boosts customer relations. It's a win win situation for all concerned.

Some fleets have new navigation systems that can help the customer get from point A to point B in less time which can also be a valuable money saver. Some fleets only have this option on Local or round trip use trucks and vans, but look to see it nation wide very soon.

Most large rental truck fleets have offices in most major cities as well as larger size towns, something most of the large professional moving companies don't have. This makes it much easier to find, deal with, rent and finally return the rental truck. One of the pit falls of hiring a professional mover is that if they don't happen to have an office or hub near the customers final destination, often times extra charges are levied to pay for the truck returning to a central hub or for extra driver wages or both. Hiring a professional mover most times means planning your move around their often less then on time schedule. Using a rental truck for a move doesn't suffer from someone else's failure to meet a schedule. There is never the wondering if the truck will show up on time, or at all.

So when its time to move consider a self move rental truck, do the math, and decide which makes more sense. See which one is the better value especially if there is a moving budget involved. The figures will be surprising, even when the 3 plus dollar a gallon fuel is involved. It sounds hard to believe, but it's true. Check it out.

Secrets To Make Travel Easy And Stress Free

6:26 AM

The greatest secret to the success of a vacation is in the planning. While it sounds daring to just throw your clothes in a bag and 'wing it', the reality is that it takes a calculator, a pencil, and even a map to plot an easy and stress-free vacation.

1. Make a realistic budget, and stick to it!

You don't want to spend sleepless nights worrying how to pay off your credit card. How much can you afford to spend? Then list down what you will have to pay for, from obvious expenses like room, board and transportation, to things like food, airport fees, and souvenirs and shopping.

To get a realistic gauge, find out the cost of living of the area and visit travelers forums to get a general idea of how much others have spent. Also consider hidden costs and the nature of the vacation.

For example, a hotel may look cheap, but it may have such a limited range of accessible restaurants that you'll end up spending a fortune on food. Or, you may be visiting a shopper's haven where the bargains are too great to pass up. You need more money to splurge here than if you had just gone to a beach, where the sun is free.

2. Keep a realistic itinerary

Some people turn vacations in a frenzied attempt to see everything in three days or less. The thing is, if you try to cram too many sights, you'll be running from one place to another without really absorbing what you hear. You may also be exhausting yourself to the point that you need a vacation to recover from your vacation!

Research on the places you want to visit. How much time do you really need for each? Some places are just beautiful backdrops where you'll need less than an hour to take the requisite photos. Others, like museums, should have an entire afternoon.

3. Start planning three to four months ahead

This gives you time to look for discounts or negotiate for better rates, and make arrangements for the work (or pets!) you're leaving behind. You also have time to save, in case you realize your allotted budget isn't enough.

4. Find out about the place's quirks

Be informed! Know the climate, the kind of clothes you need to wear, and prepare for the little quirks of the place. For example, you may find out that it costs a fortune to develop film or photos in the resort you're visiting.

At least you'll have an extra memory card! Other things to look out for: accessibility of transportation, how many people in that area can speak English, the number of ATM's or how many of the establishments accept credit cards. These details may not seem important as finding a good hotel, but can quickly become annoying and stressful inconveniences!

5. Don't go there with too many expectations

It's okay to be excited, but many tourists are just too easily disappointed and frustrated. Remember, no matter how 'imperfect' a vacation is, it's still a chance to discover a new place and culture, and get out of the rut of the everyday. It's useless to keep comparing it to 'how things are back home' or rant about how it's fallen short of the promises in the brochure. You're already there. Make the most of it.

A Tourist Guide To Tenerife

6:26 AM

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Spanish Canary Islands. The island is an extremely popular tourist destination partly because of its year round high temperatures and sunny weather. Tenerife has it all from stunning beaches, historical buildings and small fishing bays to impressive volcanoes and a perfect climate.

Resorts and Accommodation
There are a number of popular resorts on the island, the most popular being Santa Cruz, Puerto de la Cruz, Playa Paraiso, Los Gigantes, Los Cristianos, Las Am?ricas, Golf del Sur, El M?dano, Callao Salvaje and Amarilla Golf. The accommodation within these resorts is typically hotels, lodgings, self-catering apartments, holiday homes, villas and bungalows. All the accommodation is star rated and prices vary accordingly.

Traveling There
Flying is the easiest and possibly only realistic option of travelling directly to the Canaries. There are two airports on Tenerife, Los Rodeos International Airport in the north and Reina Sofia International Airport in the south. If you are already in the Canaries or Spain you can reach the island by boat but it is time consuming and costly. Once o the island it is easy to get around. There are numerous vehicle rental operators, frequent taxis and the bus service is excellent.

A Brief History
People have been living on Tenerife since ancient times although it wasn't until years later that the western world became interested in the island. It was eventually conquered by the Spanish in 1495 and thus became part of Europe. Tenerife is still to this day governed by Spain and enjoys an ever growing economy from tourism.

Sights and Attraction
The best sightseeing on Tenerife comes from the natural scenery despite many amazing manmade attractions. Take a drive through The Anaga mountain range wonderful views and stunning scenery. Visit the deepest ravine in the Canaries at Barranco del Infierno and the landscapes around Vilaflor that make you feel like you are on the moon. Tenerife has a beautiful national park at Las Ca?adas del Teide that is also a must see for any sightseeing enthusiast.

Shopping
The resort of Santa Cruz is the most popular shopping area with both designer labels and standard high street shops. There is also a market every Sunday that is great for bargains. Los Cristianos on the south of the island is a great place to go if you are looking to shop for souvenirs.

Dining on the Island
There are plenty of restaurants scattered around every resort on the island. The majority of dining establishments serve traditional Canarian cuisine as well as standard restaurant dishes. If international cuisine is more your fancy then you will not be disappointed as Tenerife has everything from French restaurants to Indian takeaways, fast-food outlets and Greek tavernas. There is also a variety of caf?s and bars to choose from and a great nightlife with some resorts boasting lively nightclubs.

Orlando- not just for kids

6:26 AM

Disney's contribution to nightlife comes in the shape and form of Pleasure Island, located at Down Town Disney. Depending on the type of park ticket you have, you may or may not be included. Pleasure Island has a lot to offer to suit all tastes. It offers 8 different themed nightclubs, with 2 more on the way. There are dance clubs playing a variety of music from different eras. There are comedy clubs, jazz clubs and so much more.

There are numerous restaurants and shops that are open throughout the day when no admission ticket is required. A really good bonus is that generally speaking parking is free at Pleasure Island, (obviously there is a charge for valet parking which is also on offer.)

Another popular nighttimes attraction is Dinner Shows. There is a huge variety to choose from- here are just a few to give you an idea of what is on offer. Arabian nights- watch a spectacular story unfold with more than 60 amazing horses whilst you dine on a Prime Rib banquet. Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede (located adjacent to Premium Outlet Mall). This show really has it all- horses, comedy, singing and dancing, a four course meal, building to a hugely patriotic finale! Medieval Times based in a castle with knights jousting and playing games whilst you have a feast. Other themed dinner attractions include Murder Watch Mystery, Pirates Dinner Adventure and many many more.

Whichever one you choose you will be assured of good food and a great night's entertainment.

City Walk, part of Universal Studios, is also a front-runner in the nighttime's entertainment industry. The complex has similarities to Down Town Disney (West Side), however its layout is far more compact just like Disney's Pleasure Island.

City Walk is located along a small lake and can only be accessed on foot. Anyone arriving by car must park at one of Universal's two enormous parking garages (which are free of charge AFTER 6pm). From there it will take between 5-10 minutes to walk to City Walk. There are moving sidewalks available.

Once you have arrived at City Walk you will discover a wide variety of clubs to suit an enormous range of musical tastes e.g. Motown, Bob Marley, dance music, rock'n'roll, duelling pianos and Latin rhythms to name a few.

Venues include Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, City Jazz. Pat O'Brian's Irish Bar (based very closely on the original in New Orleans including the signature fire and water fountain), NASCAR Caf?, the Groove, and Bob Marley-A Tribute to Freedom (based very much on Marley's home in Kingston, Jamaica which was converted into a museum after the reggae star's death in 1981.)

There is no admission charge for City Walk, however certain clubs may require a cover charge. Guests have the opportunity to buy a Key to the Clubs for $7.95 plus tax and this will provide admission to all venues.

Whichever location you choose to visit, we are sure that some of the nightlife on offer in Orlando will help make your vacation a great one.

So just how can you save money on your next vacation and still have a fantastic time? The good news is that there are a number of ways in which you can enjoy a holiday for less than $1,000 and the choices available allow you to do something different and fun at the same time.

The first option open to you is camping. Now when you think of camping, fun is not necessarily the first word that you think of. Rain, hard floors, wild animals and misery is often associated with camping out and so most of the time the family is hesitant to even attempt it even if it will save them money. However, camping really does not have to be that bad and if anything it can actually be quite fun. Try staying at a National Park for example and take along a small grill that will help you to cook nicer meals.

Another option open to you which the kids will love is Disney World. Yes it is completely possible to still go to Disney World and spend less than $1,000. This is because Disney offer value resorts and they have opted to make their parks more affordable for families which means that you get to enjoy all of the things that other families do just at a smaller price.

If you are looking to save money on travel then you can easily save money on flights. Flights tend to be one of the most expensive parts of a vacation and so if you can save money on them you will be able to spend more money on other things that you enjoy. Look for last minute deals as well as buying tickets from airlines such as Southwest Airlines or JetBlue Airlines.

Finally another way to have a fantastic vacation for under $1,000 is by going on a cruise. Now cruises used to be considered a luxury and you would not expect to find a cruise for less than $1,000 but it can be done. Some cruises from cruise liners such as Carnival Cruises, tend to have deals which vary in price from just $500. So shop around and see what you can find.

Overall it is easy to find cheap vacations to suit your needs; you just have to know where to look. Holiday deals are not always cheap and tacky, they can be really fun and if you go to somewhere like Disney you can really allow the whole family to have an excellent vacation. So when you are considering your next holiday, why not look out for cheap travel packages?

Visiting The Costa Blanca All Year Round

6:27 AM

No matter what the season, Murcia is always a wonderful place to visit. Like all of the cities along the Costa Blanca, the weather is relatively mild all year round. Special natural blessings help to keep the average temperature of the Costa Blanca around 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 Celsius). These blessings include the warm ocean breezes crossing the Mediterranean from Africa and mountains to the west that protect the area from the cold air of the rest of Europe.

The temperatures drop a little during the winter months, but still stay at a temperate 50 degrees Fahrenheit, 10 Celsius. Warm enough to golf, hike or do many other outdoor activities. A light sweater is all you will need during the day, and a jacket at night when it gets a little cooler.

The fall is one of the most times for Murcia weather. Many tourists are gone, so you can enjoy the sights and attractions without the crowds, but still be comfortable with temperatures in the 75 degree range (24 Celsius). Even the water is kind enough to stay warm so late season vacationers can still swim.

You will decide that there is no bad time to visit Murcia and the Alicante. You can't ask for more than predictable, consistent weather ranging from 50 degrees in the winter to 75 degrees in the spring.

What do you pack for your trip to Murcia? One thing for sure, don't leave your bathing suit home.

The sun is almost always out, so you will also want a light cover up for on the beach.

Pack a light jacket for almost any time of year, and then add a few layers if you are traveling in fall or winter.

Don't forget about the consistent sunshine, it's a blessing on vacation, but you do have to be careful of your skin. Wear a hat with a brim, as well as sunscreen.

Since there is so much to see and do in Murcia, you will want to have a pair of comfortable walking shoes along on your trip. The city is made for walking and sightseeing, and you can always take your shoes off for those long jaunts along the beach. If you forget any of these items, don't let it bother you. There are many lovely shops in the downtown area where you can buy your essentials reasonably.

What not to pack? An umbrella! The average rainfall in Murcia is a paltry 3 cm a month. You may get as much as 6 cm in the fall or winter, but just duck into a museum if you hit a rainy day.

Reserving Your Benidorm Car Hire

6:26 AM

It is fairly easy to find a Benidorm car hire. This city is a huge tourist attraction. There are over twenty companies that operate in Benidorm. The city is home to both national and international companies. Compare the rates, packages and hidden fees with each company when reserving a car.

Reserving Your Benidorm Car Hire

Reserve your car hire before you leave home to get the best deal possible. Compare pricing through a variety of different sources. Look for car hire companies on the internet and compare prices as well as what is included in the packages offered by each company. Compare prices from the internet, travel agent and directly with the company.

You can either pick up your car at the Alicante airport or rent from a company in Benidorm. Depending on the situation, one may be cheaper than the other. If you rent with a Benidorm company, some will pick you up at the airport. There is also a bus to Benidorm that can get you to your destination.

Additional Costs for a Benidorm Car Hire

Hidden fees in a car hire agreement can add up to quite a bit of extra money. Ask questions and read the fine print in your rental agreement to avoid costly fees. Some packages are inclusive and can save money.

Insurance adds a substantial amount to the cost of your rental. This is intended to cover damage done to the car while it's in your possession. In some agreements, this cost is built in. However, the cost of insurance is extra in most cases. You may wonder if you need to have this coverage.

Check with your regular insurance carrier before you leave home. In some cases, the rental is already covered under your current policy. In this case, you are wasting money on additional insurance. Others will not cover the rental or may have restrictions or limitations. Ask about these restrictions. Also, check with your credit card company. Some major cards offer insurance protection when the card is used for the car hire.

Charges for mileage should be considered when hiring a car for your vacation on the Costa Blanca. Some offer unlimited mileage. Others offer a certain number of miles for free and then charge for additional miles. Ask specifically about mileage when comparing rental companies. If you plan to travel extensively throughout the region, look for unlimited mileage.

Taxes and airport taxes can add to the cost of your rental. These vary according to where you rent your vehicle. Many visitors hire a car at the Alicante airport. This can result in airport taxes. Find out if they are included in the rate. The value added tax on European rentals can also add significantly to the cost. Find out how much these are and if they are included in the rental fee.

Ask about the return time for the car. Some operate on a twenty four hour day. If this is the case, there will be a certain hour by which the car needs to be returned. Returning the vehicle even a little later can result in an additional day's charges.

Compare daily and weekly rates. The difference can vary considerably. In some cases, it is less expensive to take the weekly rate and return the car early. Compare policies and price differences when making a decision.

Ask about drop off charges, if you plan to pick up the car in one location and drop off at another. Many companies charge extra for this service. In some cases, this can be several hundred dollars in additional fees. Other companies don't charge extra for this service. If you plan to travel and drop off in another location, ask about this policy.

Inquire about gas charges. Some companies charge a fee if the gas tank is not full when the car is returned. In some cases, this charge can be much higher than the price at the pump. Ask about the price difference. Be sure to fill the tank before you return the car to avoid costly service charges for fuel.

Family Resorts In The Caribbean

6:26 AM

The Caribbean has become a well known standard for family vacations. There is so much enjoyment to be had and usually contains resorts with a lot of features for the family. You can usually get the following items in a family package

* Deluxe swimming pools with water slides
* Water sports and the beach
* Programs for kids and activities for a family
* Drinks on tap and convenient meal times
* Pampering services for adults such as dining, cocktail parties and spas to name a few
* Good rates for a family
* Services such as babysitting

There are so many Caribbean all inclusive family travel resorts available today and considering you are spending your hard earned money and you are taking your whole family you want to choose the best one that fits your needs.

When a package advertises as all inclusive, it doesn't necessarily mean everything. You do get snacks and meals, kid's programs and drinks, some water sports among other things but not everything. Consider the following

* Water sports like kayaks, wind surfing and aquatrikes are included but things like water skis and jet skis and anything else that is motorized can cost extra.

* You can usually do some snorkeling but there may be a time limit to the gear and if you desire to sign up for a boat trip you may have to pay for it.

* Scuba usually ends up being extra

* The spas are extra most of the time unless you go on a special Caribbean travel deal

* There are certain non all inclusive packages that have meals and activities included

* If you travel out of the resort you will cost you but usually there is a shuttle or a town within walking distance.

Kid's Club

The all inclusive family packages offer clubs which consist of one or two rooms filled with toys, a TV and sometimes video games for ages four to twelve. A friendly experienced staff is on hand to supervise them. You can find this on almost all packages; they vary in age group and programs. Some examples of Caribbean family travel specials that offer this service are Beach resorts, Atlantis in the Bahamas and Club Med in Punta Cana.

Babies and Toddlers

It is easier to find infant care and nurseries on many Caribbean travel resorts these days. It is a helpful thing for a parent because you can take a little break for yourself and leave your child taking a nap in the nursery.

There are nurses and doctors on site in the bigger travel resorts so check them out first if that is your concern. And double check the resort before you go to make sure that they have a baby club running during the time you will be there.

Carlisle, Pennsylvania: An Unique Vacation Destination

6:27 AM

I had the great pleasure of being able to recently visit a small town located in about the middle of the State of Pennsylvania. This town is full of spirit and has its own personality that makes it very unique and alive. This town is Carlisle, Pa. It is a beautiful and historic, with proud residents. The downtown area is the heart of Carlisle, full of antique shops, art galleries, chic shops, many modern lodging facilities, a performing arts center, and, many fine restaurants.

The community is very diverse and expanding culturally, intellectually and socially. It has 3 colleges and boasts its award winning schools. I understand from the local residents that in last few years the town began to decline, but much progress is being made to return the town to through a massive renovation program, with the city fathers and residents working together to achieve their goals. Carlisle is now presenting itself to everyone as a unique and beautiful historic and interesting town once again.

People come here from all over, for many reasons. It has become a destination for the local areas and, being just a couple of hours drive from many local upscale communities, Carlisle is experiencing a renewed economic boom with its businesses and shops drawing people from throughout the central Pennsylvania area. Additionally, Carlisle's fine lodging in its downtown allows visitors to take in not only Carlisle but surrounding historic and scenic areas.

Located only minutes from Harrisburg, Hershey, Gettysburg, and Lancaster, and just two hours from Philadelphia and Washington D.C, Carlisle is but a short drive away, but a world apart.

Founded in 1751 as the county seat, Carlisle was the largest and wealthiest town in Cumberland County. When walking through this wonderful community, you can't help but notice the little things that make Carlisle special. Even in past times, there were writings of the special qualities and uniqueness of the town. 'The streets of the town are straight and there are many genteel houses' wrote Johann David Schoepf in 1783. 'Almost all [the houses are] built of stone..' wrote M. St. Jean DeCrevecoeur in 1787. He continued; the houses, instead of adjoining one another, are separated either by an orchard or by a garden or a barn, often by all three.' Abraham Steiner, on his way to survey lands in Ohio in 1789, described Carlisle as a 'beautiful little townThe town has about 350 handsome and for the most part two-story houses, most of which are built of handsome blue limestoneThe Court House is not large, but handsome, the prison small and the Market good. There are three churchesa college, and two English schools'

Today, the special qualities and uniqueness of Carlisle of past continues to intrigue residents and visitors.

Big Island Vacation Packages: Should You Purchase One?

6:27 AM

When we think of Hawaii vacations, Oahu and Maui are often the first islands that come to mind, but they are not all that Hawaii is about. You can also have the perfect vacation while visiting Hawaii's Big Island. If you would like to take a Big Island vacation, you will need to make your vacation reservations. As you likely already know, you have a number of different ways to book your reservations. One of those ways is with a Big Island vacation package. As nice as Big Island vacation packages are, you may be wondering whether or not you should purchase one.

When determining whether or not you should purchase your vacation reservations in the form of a Big Island vacation package, there are a number of important factors that need to be taken into to consideration. Those factors include how much money you are looking to save, what type of travel arrangements and accommodations you will need, and if you have already started making your reservations. Those factors are vital, when it comes to determining whether or not you should purchase a Big Island vacation package.

As previously mentioned, you need to know what type of accommodations and travel arrangements you will need to make. Whether you are coming from the United States or another country, you will need to make airline reservations. In addition to airline reservations, you will also need to decide on your overnight accommodations. Whether you choose to stay at a Big Island vacation home, condo, vacation resort, or hotel, you will need to make your reservations. Also, do you plan on renting a car? These arrangements are important because they will help to determine whether or not you should purchase a Big Island vacation package. For example, many Big Island vacation packages include overnight accommodations, airline reservations, and car rentals. You will not want what to purchase a vacation package if you will not use the services that are included in those packages.

In addition to the accommodations and travel arrangements that you need to make, it is also important to determine whether or not you have already made any of your Big Island vacation reservations. As mentioned above, most Big Island vacation packages include overnight accommodations, airline reservations, and car rentals. If you already booked your overnight accommodations, say at a Big Island vacation rental, you will not want to purchase a vacation package that includes overnight accommodations. Purchasing a Big Island vacation package that includes arrangements and accommodations that you will not use will not save you money, but it will actually end up costing you money.

Speaking of saving money, how much money do you wish to save on your next Big Island vacation? Better yet, do you want to save money? If you are like most other travelers then your answer should be yes. If you want to save money on your next Big Island vacation then you may want to purchase a Big Island vacation package. Almost all Big Island vacation packages are designed to save you money. You are given discounts by booking a number of your vacation reservations at the same time, all at once. The amount of money that you will save, with a Big Island vacation package, will all depend on the package in question. Despite the varied amounts of savings, it is possible to save anywhere from fifty to two hundred dollars on your next Hawaii Big Island vacation, with the purchase of a vacation package.

As stated above, you will be able to save money on your next Big Island vacation with the purchase of a vacation package, but only if you will use the services and accommodations that are included. That is why it is advised that you thoroughly examine all vacation packages before making the decision to purchase one.

Orlando: The Haven City For Tourists

6:26 AM

Did you ever sit down with your family to plan your next vacation and then realize that you just couldn't find that special somewhere where the parents and the kids, and perhaps another relative or 2, could all find something interesting to do?

And on top of that, maybe you've been to all the interesting places within your travel budget anyway? Well then you probably haven't been to Orlando, Florida. Otherwise you'd realize that even Orlando 'V-V's' (Vacation Veterans) can always find something to see and do in Orlando that they didn't do the last time they were here, or even the time before that.

I've long wondered what it is about Orlando that draws so many people to this, the sixth largest city in Florida. Well, a city of less than 200,000 people that draws about 52,000,000 (yes, Million!) tourists a year must be doing something right.

It's almost an understatement to say that the good people of the city want to give you the chance to see and do something new and fun (or even something old and fun, because many of the city's attractions do bear repeated visits).

This attitude, and the countless opportunities for the fun-loving and health-loving and education-loving visitor, is one reason that Orlando is called 'the amusement capital of the world', as well as 'the city beautiful'.

Step by step I'll take you through a lot of the city's tourist attractions (not the least of which are the fine accommodations for visitors, from hotel rooms to fully equipped apartments). In this article I'll start with some of the more famous attractions, since these are what many people are initially interested in.
Not that you're unfamiliar with Disney World. We may safely label it as the world's favorite children's theme park.

This grand creation has 4 different theme parks full of shows, rides and other attractions. As well it provides plenty of shopping and eating opportunities for those who may be 'themed' out for awhile.

The first park is Magic Kingdom, Disney's first theme park. Second is Animal Kingdom Park, combining an animal experience with classic rides, attractions and shows. Epcot Park takes you into the future, cleverly combining fun and learning. The MGM Studios contains among many other things, a tower of terror which is pleasant looking from outside but may, once you're inside, frighten your heart out.

Another famous tourist haven in Orlando is Universal Orlando Resort, which has five theme parks, including the Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, Wet 'n Wild Water Park, Sea World, and Busch Gardens. Add to this the dining, nightlife and shopping venues and you may just find the ideal place for at least one full vacation. The resort also contains the Universal Studios where you can enjoy the ride while watching movies. If you have a budding Hollywood star in your brood they can learn how movies are made and the secrets behind some movie effects. Within this resort each theme park stands alone.

Perhaps two of them at this resort are most famous One is The Islands of Adventure, which certainly live up to their name, with wild rides and roller coasters in this quite new park in Orlando.
There is also Sea World, a well known aquatic park, which offers breath-taking rides as well as animal shows where you can see smart animals doing their amazing stunts.

We are just scratching the surface of this amazing town. We'll follow up with more on Orlando in future articles and I won't be surprised if you write me sometime to say you've planned several vacations there for the near future.

Five Fun Things To Do Inside A Fez Hotel

6:27 AM

The medieval city of Fez in Morocco has sights and sounds that can really cure that sickness most active travelers dread about - boredom. If the weather is fine and your mood is up for some real adventures, then get out of your Fez hotel room and witness the city's breathtaking attractions like the Bou Inania Madrassa and the Merenid Tombs. Stop by at the medina to shop for Moroccan items that you can give away to your friends back at home. Stand in awe as you watch the Moroccan artisans traditionally process leather at the city's tanneries. Also, a lot of exciting activities and exhilarating hotspots await outside your Fez hotel, so there is no way for you to be under the vicious claws of boredom.

However, what if the weather will not allow you to experience the thrills and frills waiting outside your Fez hotel room? Or what if you are not in the mood to face the Fez travel challenges but still looking forward to a fun-filled day? Do not worry, in case severe boredom sets in, try one or more of these five fun things to do inside your Fez accommodation:

1. Lose Yourself In A Book
Finally, it is your chance to finish that book you started reading while on flight but had to put down to give way for those Morocco trips. Reading is always a delightful pastime. Only a book has the ability to bring you to many magical places by just simply flipping pages. Don't have anything to read? Try Mark Ellingham's 'The Rough Guide to Morocco'.

2. Practice Your Culinary Skill
If you never tried cooking for yourself before, this is an exciting thing to do. Find a recipe of a simple Moroccan dish on the Internet and pretend like you are Morocco's version of Iron Chef. Remember to follow the instructions carefully so you can come up with a dish that you can be really proud of. Offer it to your travel buddies and ask for feedbacks.

3. Join the Blogosphere
An online travel journal is a must-have for travelers. Your travel experiences and ideas might be helpful to other people. It is also a convenient way of telling your family and friends the events happened to you along your trip. Visiting other blogs can also provide inspiration for future posts. It can even be an avenue for building new friendships. To do this, make sure to book at a Fez hotel that has a reliable Internet connection.

4. Play Sports
Most Morocco accommodations have recreational facilities that you can utilize according to your liking. Tennis courts, swimming pools, and golf courses are the usual amenities found in a Fez hotel. Involving yourself in these sports can benefit you in two ways: one, it can help you escape from boredom; and two, it can be beneficial to your health.

5. Indulge In A Sound Trip
After you feasted your eyes on Fez's captivating scenery, it is time you give your ears a shot of your favorite tunes. Whatever music genre you are into, a song with a nice rhythm and beat will never fail to bring a relaxing feeling to your body and soul. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your favorite CD, press play, and turn up the volume. Just make sure you do not disturb the Fez hotel occupants next door!

A Nation Is Born In Philadelphia - Philadelphia Travel Information

6:27 AM

Often referred to as 'America's Birthplace,' Philadelphia has been the center of progressive beliefs and democratic principles since the first settlement of the city was founded by the now famous Quaker, William Penn. Naming the settlement 'The City of Brotherly Love,' William Penn hoped to protect individual freedoms and promote religious tolerance in stark contrast with what many colonists had escaped under British rule.

William Penn's visions were realized when the Declaration of Independence was signed in Independence Hall, and after years of bloody and hostile clashes with the British Army during the American Revolution when the United States Constitution was first drafted in the same hall. Travel through time in Independence National Historic Park (Old City) where the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Constitution Hall are all concentrated. You can view the Constitution and Declaration of Independence in Constitution Hall and take a walk through the many Revolution-era buildings that have been restored and preserved. Travel to Philadelphia, once the capital of the United States, and see for yourself the remnants of revolutionary battles and the emergence of a new, independent nation.

Hoagies, Movies and Masterpieces

A simple walk through the streets of central Philadelphia will reveal the nation's largest collection of public art amidst ample park space and well-planned, easily navigated streets. Stroll along West Market Street near City Hall and through LOVE Park, taking in the fantastic murals and sculptures along the way. For a more traditional experience, visit the masterpieces of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the steps of which were made famous by Sylvester Stallone in Rocky. For the most unique museum experience, visit the Mutter Museum, originally open to medical students and featuring a wide array of formaldehyde-filled cadavers and skeletal displays, along with some little known facts about the nation's medical history.

Philadelphia is also known for its many famous architectural feats and noteworthy buildings. The City Hall, completed in 1900, is the world's tallest load-bearing masonry structure. Another Historic Landmark, the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society building is considered to be America's first International Modernist skyscraper and also home of the first ever savings bank in the United States. On a smaller scale, Philadelphia is known for the homes of Benjamin Franklin and Edgar Allen Poe.

Find airfare to Philadelphia around the first Friday of the month to enjoy the galleries and sights in Old City for free until late in the evening. When you have had enough of museums, stop into a pub or restaurant for an original Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and some Italian ice for a true taste of Philadelphia. You will probably even want to order a few extra sandwiches for the flight home!

Thailands Koh Samui Holidays

6:26 AM

If you're looking for a vacation spot with a little bit of everything, Koh Samui should be your port of call! This Thai island lies off the east of the Kra Isthmus and as Thailand's third largest island, it has enough to do to entertain even the most discerning tourist. With plenty of beach-front resorts that will have you living just meters away from the water, let this island show you some of the best of what Thailand has to offer.

If you re a nature lover, be sure to take advantage of the many day trips into mountainous jungle interior of the island. Keep an eye out for the waterfalls, especially for Na Muang and Na Muang II. The former is 18 meters high while the later stretches up a dizzying 80 meters. While the former can be accessed by vehicle, the later can only be reached via a 30 minute walk. If possible, see both of these natural wonders during your stay. If you are interested in some of the wildlife of Thailand, Koh Samui has a crocodile farm, a monkey theater, a butterfly garden and an renowned aquarium, and that's just for starters!

When you're tired of the wildlife, check out the nightlife! Koh Samui boasts many bars, discos and cabaret shows, especially in Lamai and Chaweng. Check out the Raggae Pub and the Bauhaus for dancing that can last until dawn. For live music, head down to the Beach Pub at Secret Garden. This stretch of beach has become an international gathering place for professional and semiprofessional musicians, and live sessions take place every Saturday afternoon, attracting large crowds of people, all ready for a party!

One of the best reasons to make Koh Samui your vacation destination is the water; the waters of this beautiful island are crystal clear, making for some of the snorkeling and scuba diving in the world. If you've never gone scuba diving before, there's not time to start like the present; you'll find plenty of schools scattered along the coastline that are willing to teach you.

If you ave an interest in physical sports, come to Koh Samui to take a look at the the Thai martial art, Muay Thai boxing. This martial art has become the known all over the world for it's intensely fast action and close combat fighting style; in Koh Samui, you can see matches that will show you what this form of boxing is truly capable of. Chaweng Stadium holds matches every Monday and Friday, while you can see fights every Saturday at the Lamai stadium.

To see what life may have been like more than a century a go, be sure to visit Koh Samui's oldest standing house in Ban Thale. This structure was made out of teakwood without the use of any nails. Constructed of teak planks and adorned to with traditional Thai woodcarvings, this house can show you some of the decorative motifs and styles that can still be seen in Thai design today.

Koh Samui has a lot to offer, so make sure that you plan a vacation there soon. Between the tranquil beaches and the lively bar scene, there really is something for everyone!

Hitting The Library While Traveling Spain

6:26 AM

Many people say there is nothing like a good book. How about a good building full of books and a lot of history. That is what one of Spain's biggest attractions in Madrid has to offer. If you are traveling through Spain, you owe it to yourself to schedule a tour of the Biblioteca Nacional .

From the outside, the building is magnificent. It has a neoclassical fa?ade and the archways are a site many spend a lot of time gazing upon. While it looks amazing from all angles, it really is breathtaking to walk straight forward towards the building and then look up, taking in the magnitude.

You may well run out a number of pictures on your camera with photos of the Corinthian column carvings, statues, and wrought iron gating. The doors are adorned with images of many of Spain's most famous writers. You will be able to pick out Leon and Cervantes. Once inside, you can marvel at the books in the library. There are more than 5 million of them. While it is not the world's biggest library, it is still impressive and is the largest collection of Spanish writings in the world.

The library's books started with the 1712 formation of Phillip V's royal library. Some of the books were acquired in the expected way, of being purchased or given to the library. Others, were taken in seizures. Now considered the National Library of Spain, the library has volumes that detail the complete history of the country and it's growth through the centuries, as well as nearly anything you could imagine relating to Spanish culture. For history buffs, the fact that over a half million of the books are pre 1831 is a major draw.

Those with an appreciation for art may want to take a tour of the engravings and drawings in the collection, or the maps that show the paths explorers would take traveling the world. The library's collection of these items are also unrivaled anywhere else in the world.

Even if you have no literary aspirations, you will still enjoy the inside of the library as much as you enjoyed the outside. The internal architecture is just as impressive. With the silence in the building, you can walk the halls and you may find your imagination taking you back in time through the centuries to get a feel for what it may have been like living in that far in the past. You can also think about the fact that the books and other works you can look at and study are those same pieces that have been looked at and studied by many royal figures in generations past.

In addition to being a location for research, the library also is often a location for exhibitions, showing off the drawings of artists such as Rembrandt.

The library is open all year long, and there is no charge for admission to the building.

African Safaris: The Perfect Vacation

6:27 AM

African safaris can prove to be the perfect vacation. With so many things to do and see, they promise an enjoyable and relaxing vacation atmosphere. What's more, they can fill one's vacation with excitement and adventure as they explore regions in the world you may have only known or experienced through books and stories.

African safaris provide individuals with the opportunity to explore a variety of countries, and allow them to meet interesting people with unique cultural backgrounds. For instance, they allow individuals to visit all regions of Africa including central Africa, East Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands, North Africa, and finally, Southern Africa. Further, the numbers of countries that can be explored while on African safaris is fantastic and include Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar, and Zimbabwe.

In addition, when you book a vacation on any one of many African safaris, you will be pleasantly surprised with the amount of recreational activities afforded to you. While on African safaris people enjoy numerous recreations including, but in no way limited to: biking, bird watching, boating, bunji jumping, camel back riding, camping, canoeing, deep sea fishing, regular fishing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, hot air balloon rides, kayaking, mountain climbing, river boarding, sailing, scuba diving, sky diving, snorkeling, white water rafting, wind surfing and much more. In essence, an African safari provides you with a prime opportunity to plan the perfect vacation chock full of all of the activities you enjoy.

You will also find a unique diversity in the types of accommodations that can be found in Africa while you are on your safari. There are safari camps, lodges, hotels, bed and breakfast sites, and beach resorts for you to enjoy. Of course, the more stylish your accommodation, the more it will cost you. Likewise, the more people that are with you when you partake in one or more African-safaris, the more the trip and all expenses associated with it will cost.

After you have planned just exactly where it is you want to vacation during your safari, you will want to take the weather in the area you have chosen into consideration. For instance, in the Indian Ocean Islands the dry season runs from the month of May to October, so you might want to plan your trip accordingly. Likewise, in East and Central Africa, the best time to plan your African safari is during the months of July through August. Southern Africa's best months are May and June. After you have successfully booked your trip, you will want to prepare yourself accordingly. There are myriad considerations to contend with when you plan to travel to Africa. For instance, you will have to provide your passports, deal with custom concessions, ensure that your immunizations are current, and you will want to pack your clothing according to the weather in the region you plan to visit. Of course, the more individuals that travel with you on your African safari, the more you will have to consider and deal with in terms of preparation.

Night in Satun - Adventures in Southern Thailand

6:27 AM

My Mercedes is waiting. The sun beams diffusely down through the moisture laden air causing beads of sweat to drip continuously on my already drenched t-shirt. I am going to Satun and the Mercedes is a classic well kept 1962 model. In fact there is a whole fleet of Mercedes waiting to take tourist to Satun from Hai Jai in Southern Thailand. They are all black with an exaggerated curved body indicative of automobiles of the late 50's. And believe it or not, they still retain the comfort that Mercedes is famous for.

The year is 1998 and I am going to the Andaman Sea in the Straits of Malacca. There I will plant myself for two weeks on one of the many somewhat deserted islands that dot this reclusive part of the world. A world inhabited by pirates and honeymooners in the Koh Tarutao National Park system in the very south of Southern Thailand.

Which island I am going to, I don't know, but I am not the only one. Sharing my taxi ride is a young couple in love from Germany and a family from Thailand, husband and wife with their 5 year old son.

It takes about twenty minutes for the taxi driver to stuff everyone's belongings into the trunk. I have made substantial purchases of deliciously fresh dried fruits and filled my water container with pomegranate juice from one of the 'made for tourist' vendors surrounding the taxi. We squeeze into tightly together; the family and myself in the rear of the taxi and the couple from Germany in the front and prepare for a long and fascinating journey.

'Are you comfortable' the driver asks in broken English.
I answer like an excited kid, 'Let's get this rocket rolling.'
My feelings were of excitement and anticipation and I don't know why I said such a strange thing. No one else said anything and I felt as if my words were still echoing in the silence minutes later. But no matter, here I am in the middle of the world, on an adventure that relatively few have gone before.

The journey takes 3 hours of driving through exotic and undeveloped country side; incidentally through a warm and friendly Islamic side of Thailand. At one point we passed two foreigners on bicycles pedaling in racing uniforms. Later they caught up to us in some remote village on the way as we were stopping for refreshment. They came up next to our taxi and said with a heavy European accent 'hello?' I answered, 'Wow! I can't believe this! What are you doing way out here in the middle of nowhere on bicycles?'

The young man in his twenties answered, 'We are traveling around the world. We are on our way to Indonesia.' The other couple traveling in the taxi with me immediately took notice and a very long and interesting conversation ensues between all of us.

It turns out that the bicyclists are a married couple and the last county they pedaled through was Myanmar. After Indonesia, they planned to cycle the islands of Hawaii and then to Mainland USA.

To this day I still have dreams of that encounter and the miraculous and dangerous journey they were taking. I have never heard of them since and have no idea what became of them.

Before we know it, the taxi driver is honking his horn for us to return and we are saying our goodbyes to this marvelous couple. We pile into the taxi for the last leg of our journey. Looking out the window we pass fields of coconut palms, women balancing wood or foods in baskets on their heads wearing colorful loose clothing down to their feet. The homes we pass by are often made of palm frawns or a patchwork of wood and debris. And in the fields are men and women, young and old with their ox and children tilling vegetables in the same way at their ancestors have done for thousands of years.

Finally we reach Satun. I don't know what to expect. The town is about two blocks long; a fishing village whose main street leads right to the ocean. There fishing boats made of old rotting lumber wait to take us to one of the many islands we will now select in the many makeshift tourist offices that line the street.

Each old rickety tourist office has pictures of the islands they offer and provide for a fee, the means to get their. And if you are uninformed, you will pay in advance for you accommodations. Something better to do when you arrive on the island. Occasionally an owner of one of these offices tries to get us inside by enticing us with words like 'beautiful, exotic, cheap' We all walk down the main avenue looking and asking questions until each of us select our travel destination destiny.

I study all the pictures from all the offices of all the islands carefully and I choose Langkawi only 5 kilometers away from the southern tip of Tarutao Island. I pay the equivalent of approximately $7 for a round trip boat ticket and I am then led to one of the boats. The boat can fit about 4 people and sits low to the water. There is single engine propeller that is barely hangs attached to the rear of the craft. I wait about 15 minutes before we begin our three hour journey through rough and dangerous seas to the somewhat deserted and exotic island of Langkawi...

My days on the island with boa constrictors, pirates, a lost tribe of Islamic fishermen, my isolated beach cottage right on my own private beach, the couple isolated on the other side of the island studying esoteric Buddhism, the small exotic caf? serving daily fresh fish from the sea, the many tourist from Europe that came and went, lightening in the sky on a clear day and the marvelous skin diving in clear deep tropical sears are topics I will discuss in my next article. Stay turned.

Spanish Fiestas Make Your Trip Complete

6:28 AM

Planning on visiting Spain? Whatever else you want to do, you should make sure you attend at least one 'fiesta.' There are several traditional festivals held in Spain throughout the year, celebrating different events, and the joy and excitement involved will stay with you for a long time to come. Below we list just a few.

- Travel Spain: Sanfermines

This event is more commonly known by its English title: the Running of the Bulls. The Festival of San Fermin in Pamplona starts on July 7th of every year and lasts for a week. Each morning men, wearing the traditional white shirt and red sash, take to the streets, trying to outrun the bulls behind them. There's more to it than just the bulls, of course. You'll find carnivals and ferris wheels during the day, (as well as 'drunken revellers'.). At night the Comparsa de Gigantes - gigantic puppets - are paraded through the streets, accompanied by brass bands. The festival culminates at midnight on July 14 at the Plaza Consistorial, where people congregate to sing the traditional mournful notes of the 'Pobre de M?'.

Similar festivals on a smaller scale are held in Tudela (July 24th - 28th), Estella (first Saturday in August), Tafalla (August 20th - 25th), and Sanguesa (September 11th - 17th).

- Travel Spain: Semana Santa

Almost a million people will pour into Seville during Easter Week to witness the processions of this holy festival, which begins on Palm Sunday and culminates on Eastern Sunday.

In the 16th century, the Catholic church decided that the Passion of Christ should be brought home to the common people through the medium of art. The Church commissioned the best artists to craft the holy figures out of wood and costume them in the richest of fabrics. They then achieved pride of place in front of the parades winding through the city. Today, 57 'brotherhoods' march through the city from their church to the Cathedral of Seville and back.

If you'd like to see the Semana Santa you must make reservations years in advance. It is that popular.

- Travel Spain: Feria de Abril

Just a couple of weeks after Semana Santa, tourists will pour back into the capital city of Andalusia for the Feria de Abril. Perhaps the most visited tourist spot in Seville is the city's cathedral, the Catedral de Santa Mar?a de la Sede. - the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in the world, and the largest medieval Gothic religious edifice as well. Construction began in 1402, it was completed in the 1600s. Facing this cathedral is the Alc?zar, or Moorish Palace. Construction on this building began in 1181 and continued for over 500 years.

In addition to its architecture and its Barber, Seville is famous for its two festivals held within weeks of each other, the Easter Holy Week, (Semana Santa), and the April Fair or Feria de Abril.

Flamenco dancing and bull-fighting. That's what you'll find at the Feria de Abril. There are no set dates for the festival - the exact dates are not decided until December, but its going to take place some time in April!

Flamenco: beautiful women in flowing dresses, slim men in tight-fitting white and black, clapping, stomping, and the classical guitar.

Bull-fighting: The flamenco dancing starts in the evening. During the day, revelers can get tickets to see the traditional Spanish 'corrida.' Several fights take place each day.

This festival takes place in a huge area on the far bank of the Guadalquivir River. You'll recognize it immediately because of row upon row of tents which are temporarily built on the fairground. There are two sections of these tents - one an essentially private area for the hundreds of Spanish families who congregate to celebrate, and the other section for the tourist.

- Travel Spain: Las Fallas de San Jos?

Seville is way down in the south of Spain. But Valencia is located on its eastern, Mediterranean coast, overlooking the Gulf of Valencia.

If you're in Spain in the spring, then Valencia is the place to go. For ten days in March - from March 13-19, you'll want to attend Las Fallas de San Jos?. The Fallas are gigantic models made out of papier mache, wood and wax. Models are chosen from Spanish social and political current affairs. After the ten days of celebrations the fallas are burnt on the final night to the accompaniment of cheers and fireworks.

- Travel Spain: Romeria Vikinga

If you like a bit of action with your festivals, you'll want to visit Catoira in the region of Pontevedra, Galicia. On August 3 of each year, they hold the Romeria Vikinga. It's a festival that's not concerned with religion at all, but with a reenactment of a Viking raid on the Spanish coast.

Catoira looks out over the North Atlantic Ocean. In the reenactment, a Viking longship sails into view to attack the remains of the 'Torres de Oeste' - 'Towers of the East'. Usually 30 armed 'Vikings' come ashore and fight each other, calling for wine. After the reenactment, a feast of red wine and seafood is devoured, to the accompaniment of dancing and folksongs.
