The Importance Of Booking Your Kona Vacation Rental In Advance

6:26 AM

Do you have your heart set on staying at a Kona vacation rental, while on your next Kailua Kona vacation? If so, have you made your vacation reservations yet? If you have yet to make your Kona vacation rental reservations, you may seriously want to think about doing so, especially if your vacation is quickly approaching. Even if your vacation is not for some time, you may still want to think about booking your Kona vacation rental in advance; you will find that there are a number of benefits to doing so.

Perhaps, the most important reason why you should book your Kona vacation rental in advance is so that you actually end up with a place to stay. Although it is highly unlikely, there are some vacationers who have been known to forget about making their vacation reservations, namely their overnight accommodation reservations. These individuals were likely ones who kept on putting it off until they completely forgot about it. It may sound difficult to forget about making reservations, but it is actually more common than you may think. When it gets close to vacation time, there are some individuals who are so consumed with excitement that they often forget to remember the important stuff, such as booking a stay at a Kona vacation rental. That is why it is advised that you book your Kona vacation rental in advance, before the excitement takes over and reservations end up being the last thing on your mind.

In addition to making sure that you have reservations, booking your Kona vacation rental reservations in advance will help to ensure that you are able to stay at the rental of your choice, whether that rental ends up being a vacation home, villa, or condo. Getting the vacation rental of your choice is important because it may have a significant impact on the outcome of your vacation. With Kona vacation rentals being popular among tourists, you may be surprised to know just how fast some Kona vacation rentals fill up with reservations. That is why it is advised that you make your Kona vacation rental reservations in advance, especially if you are looking for something in particular.

Another benefit to booking your Kona vacation reservations in advance is that the sooner you book your reservations, the sooner that you can start focusing on the rest of your vacation. For instance, once you know exactly where in Kailua Kona you will be staying, it will be easier to plan your vacation activities, as well as the Kona attractions that you would like to visit. For example, if you know that you will be located close to the beach, you may want to start developing a beach itinerary for your trip. That itinerary could include certain beach activities that you would like to enjoy, on certain days, and so on. In addition to the beach, you may also find it easier to plan where you would like to eat or go shopping.

Although you were advised to book your Kona vacation rental reservations in advance, you may be wondering exactly how early you should start making your reservations. In all honestly, it is difficult to give an exact date and time, but you are advised to take the rental that you would like to reserve into consideration. If your vacation rental appears to be popular, you may want to book your vacation at least six months in advance. However, even if your intended Kona vacation rental does not appear to be full with reservations, you might not want to take the chance. That is why it is always best to try and book your Kona vacation rental reservations as soon as you know that you would like to vacation in the Kailua Kona area.

When it does come time to book your Kona vacation rental reservations, you will find that you have a number of different options. Those options include with the assistance of a travel agent, directly with a rental owner, and through an online travel website; with online travel websites being the most popular.

Getting The Most Out Of Your Island House Rental

6:26 AM

When you decide to visit a tropical location, your first impulse might be to choose a hotel. But hotels, particularly in popular island locations, are always busy and impersonal. In general, a hotel experience feels the same whether you're in Florida or Chicago - while a more private island rental allows you to experience the nuances of your unique travel destination.

More and more travelers today seeking a more authentic experience opt for an island house rental. In a rental property, they can relax and be as comfortable as they would be in their own home, enjoying the surroundings contentedly and absorbing the atmosphere of the islands without any stress. With the wide variety of island homes available for rental, there is an almost unlimited variety of residences to choose from. Stay length can be varied, and detailed information is available online.

A Tropical Vacation Paradise Close to Home?

When considering island homes, one of your first questions should be distance. How far do you want to travel to reach your island paradise? Although places like Hawaii and other Pacific islands may beckon, the cost to travel over seas is tough for many families today. But that doesn't mean that you need to forego your island vacation until the economy recovers. There are plenty of island retreats in the continental US that you can reach by driving!

The south coast of Florida boasts a string of incredible islands such as Anna Maria Island, Marco Island, Pine Island, and many more. The weather is delightfully temperate, particularly on some of the islands off of the coast. As you look amongst these islands, it is not hard to find an island house rental. Vacation rentals are quite common here, as many people choose to purchase a home down in Florida, but only use it part of the year, renting it out the rest of the time. As a vacationer, this system works to your benefit: the owner will maintain a beautiful home, and you will enjoy all the comforts of it during your stay.

What To Do Before You Go

You will have much more freedom with a house rental than if you simply lodged in a hotel. Your activities will not be pre-planned, and you will have complete control over what you do each day. Furthermore, you will be completely immersed in the island culture around you, interacting with the people who actually live in the area and know it intimately, rather than a concierge taught to send you to whatever local businesses have cut deals with the hotel. You are at complete liberty to plan your own vacation.

One of the best things to do before you leave is to do online research. Not only is this a lot of fun, but it helps you plan out your trip so that you get the most out of your vacation. Learn about the area surrounding the rental, and make note of any activities you want to do. If you're the type of person who doesn't care much for preplanned vacations, that's fine: just make note and then do it spur of the moment when you arrive at your island house rental.

Before you set off on your vacation, print out your information so that you don't forget your plan details and so that you have driving directions to all of the things you want to see. Once you know where you want to go, and you have yourself established in an excellent island house rental property, you are set to have an excellent vacation.

Lord Of The Arabian Skies

6:27 AM

Dubai is a celebrated, rich and famous land. So is Burj Al Arab, the world's tallest and most lavish hotel on its soil. Both are unparalleled leaders in their own spheres. If Dubai is the monarch of free-trade and infrastructure in the new millennium, then so is Burj Al Arab the lord of hotel industry. They both are unconquered celebrities. One provides the entire world an opportunity to be successful. While the other, one of the best architectural wonders of all times, displays its grandeur and artistry at the Gulf sea coast.

Measuring 321 m above the seabed, where it was constructed on a small man-made island, the hotel is arguably a very mammoth structure. The bellowing-sail that it looks like as was the brainchild of the UK based construction giant, WS Atkins, who are well known for taking up similar feats elsewhere in the world. They have been actively providing planning, designing, engineering, project management and consulting services since 1938, when Sir William Atkins had laid their foundation. Burj Al Arab is one of the most ambitious projects they have undertaken until now.

If you look from the hotel management viewpoint, running Burj Al Arab is a daunting task. Substantial manpower and planning are required to look after the lavishly built 202 lavish hotel rooms on 60 floors. These are no ordinary dwellings anyway. They are a part of one of the best hotel accommodations made available ever. If you were to fly in from a western location such as the USA, it won't be a pleasing experience at first, stepping out in the heat of Dubai. However, driving across the sandy landscape and looking at the magnificence of Burj Al Arab from your Rolls Royce is enhancing. The romance of traveling starts making beats from hereon.

Inside the hotel, you will experience an unbound colourfulness overwhelming you. There is so much of gold splattered all around, that you might begin believing Dubai was the sole owner of all the gold artifacts on earth. They have a caring staff looking after each of your needs from the moment you have checked in there, which indicates the high standards of service they are looking forward to offer. There are separate check-in counters on each of those 60 lavish floors, thus providing their customers with unparalleled freedom.

And these living spaces are not just like what you will find at any other five or even six star hotels. The smallest one occupies an area of 169 square metres (1,819 square feet), and the largest one covers 780 square metres (8,396 square feet). The cost of staying in these heavenly suits is equally staggering. You will need to cough out anything from $1K to over $15K per night. Still more expensive are the Royal Suites, which cost you 28K per night. The total expense in making of the hotel was never made public by the owners. It has remained a guarded secret until this date.

Burj Al Arab is without doubt the lord of the Arabian skies, and one of the best attraction in this part of the world for the travellers to experience. It also symbolizes Dubai's quest for more wealth and advancement. The quest that the outside world would love to be part of. Also hidden beneath is Dubai's desire of being an admired host. A host who could be seen draped in ethnic Arabian values and western influences, both at the same time. From commoners to celebrities, all have experienced this great fusion of cultural diversities. Hope you also get to have a glimpse of the same in the very near future.

Taking A Gap Year For Travel

6:26 AM

For both students and people in work, the option for taking a gap year is proving to be a very popular life choice. Making the decision to take a gap year and following it through can be difficult to achieve. For a student taking a gap year before or after taking a university degree, a gap year can have a huge positive effect in terms of boosting confidence, increasing maturity, developing social skills, gaining experience and knowledge of different cultures, helping the environment and feeling independent by taking the opportunity of working in a different country.

For a student or individual with no financial or family commitments, a gap year can seem like the perfect way to experience life before joining or returning to the world of work. However, like many things in life, there are major hurdles to overcome. Firstly there is the question of financing the gap year. If a person is lucky enough to have funds available or will be working during their gap year, this poses very few problems. For many people who are hoping to travel during their gap year, it may mean taking a temporary job or asking parents to help out financially. With student debts at an all time high, gaining the necessary funds can prove to be very difficult and delays may be inevitable.

The second hurdle to overcome is the fear and excitement of travelling to the far corners of the world and surviving to tell the tale especially for those travelling solo for the first time. Parents, friends and family will also be very worried with stories of crime, natural disasters, unstable governments and disease ridden areas making the news on a daily basis. In the vast majority of cases, most countries are just as safe as your home country. With the wealth of information available on the internet and through travel guides, there is no excuse not to plan a trip beforehand in order to make the most of it and to avoid unnecessary risks and dangers. Many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America have well laid out backpacker routes which are used by thousands of men and women travelling in groups or on their own. The vast majority have amazing experiences and return home safely. You will be hard pressed to find an individual who has taken a gap year and regretted the decision.

For some, travelling solo may pose a major problem if they have never tried it before. They may be worried about feeling lonely and unable to cope with situations by themselves in a strange country far from home. Fortunately there are thousands of people in exactly the same situation and travelling solo is the ideal way to meet people and build confidence. People often meet in hostels, bars, trains, airports and the list goes on. It is much easier to meet people while travelling than it is in your home country and in most cases, people will only be alone if they choose to be. Also the ability to cope with new situations will improve over a short period of time as you gain confidence through each experience. After a while, you will be booking accommodation on the internet, travelling long distances and communicating with people in a different language without a second thought.

The options for people taking a gap year are huge and include travel, volunteer work, contract work, seasonal jobs, adventure travel, teaching English and much more. A gap year can be a once in a life time experience and as long as you plan well and use your common sense, it can be year that will change your life for the better.

Rhode Island Lighthouses

6:25 AM

When I think about Rhode Island, a nice picture comes to my mind with hilly, rocky beaches and picturesque lighthouses. These wonderful, mostly white buildings are familiar in New England. There are plenty of lighthouses in the smallest state of the United States, Rhode Island. You can visit over 20 lights, all located in a close geographical area.

First, there is Castle Hill, Newport. This light was built around 1890, stands forty feet above sea level and marks the east entrance of Narragansett Bay. It can be seen from about twelve miles away. The Richardsonian Romanesque style lighthouse flashes an intermittent red light every six seconds to warn sailors. It is situated in a beautiful, untouched environment, you can only meet the keeper or some seagulls here.

In Narragansett, you'll also find Point Judith, which was built in 1810. This light guards the western entrance to the bay. In 1931 it became the first station in Rhode Island to have a radio beacon. These beacons allow ships to navigate at night or in fog without depending upon the light or the foghorn.

Another nice one is Newport Harbor Light at the north end of Goat Island, New Port. The current light was constructed in 1842 and has a height of 33 feet. The light was electrified and the present optic is 250 mm and is fixed green. The Newport Harbor light is an active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation and is managed by 'Friends of Newport Harbor Lighthouse.'

Watch Hill, Westerly is located on the north side of the east entrance to Fishers Island Sound in Rhode Island. It is situated on a peninsula that is almost surrounded by ocean, giving breathtaking beauty to this area. If you would like to see magnificent sunsets, you must come here. The silhouette of the lighthouse is awesome. Otherwise the whole town is wondrously interesting, full of history, Victorian architecture, classic Rhode Island oceanfront 'cottages', white sand beaches, good fishing spots, and so on. The Watch Hill Inn, built in 1845, furnished in a traditional New England style, is the town's gem, too.

And finally Rose Island, which is located in the middle of Narragansett Bay just south of the Newport Bridge. This place is a real curiosity. Can you imagine how it feels to stay in a lighthouse overnight? Here, you can try it. You can book a stay at Rose Island Lighthouse. What's more, you can be a keeper for a week, too. You have to sign for an environmental education program, where people of all ages learn about the Lighthouse's history and they experience first-hand the keeper's self-sufficient, resourceful way of life. You'll have some duties, most importantly making sure the windmill generates enough power to keep the light burning through the night. A small wind turbine powers the lighthouse and lighting inside the museum - there is no radio nor TV, no Internet, nothing. You may enjoy the beauty of the nature and freedom undisturbedly, you can collect shells and orange starfish. Isn't it wonderful?

Packing For An African Safari

6:25 AM

What to take with limited allowances for travel, in vehicles and/or light aircraft. The first thing you should do is invest in at soft bag. Your luggage will be squeezed into a limited space in your safari vehicle and a hard suitcases just will not do. Make sure the bag is plain, hardwearing with a sturdy zip.

We are often asked what binoculars to bring on safari we recommend the following: - a power x7 or higher. Look for any of the following: 7x42, 8x42, 10x42, 8x50, 10x50. It is the second number that is critical. Less than 30 and image quality is seriously compromised. Higher than 50 and you will have a hard job holding them steady. If you can afford Zeiss, Leica or Swarovski, all the better, but Canon, Nikon and Opticron do very good reasonably priced glasses.

[Recommendations for Binocular: - Magnification: 8 x 42 - Field of View: At least 330 ft at 1000 yards. - Exit pupil size: 5.25 mm or more Eye relief: 18 or more - Prism and Coating: BAK-4 prism and Fully Multi-Coated surfaces, Weight: Not more than 30.1 oz. Lbs]

MAKE A PLAN AND STICK TO IT! creating a list - like an architect planning a building, so must you plan the contents of your suitcase. Set aside the pieces you intend to bring and ensure that they are clean and ready to be packed

Jewellery - don't take what you don't want to lose, and leave behind the flashy pieces that could attract thieves. Keep makeup to a minimum to save space, and leave the perfume behind when scented lotions will work just as well. When it comes to toiletries - travel kits are always the answer. Having a travel kit perpetually stocked in a waterproof case will save in packing time before the trip and aggravation [and mess] after arrival.

A Kenyan I know is an expert packer - he will spend time packing using every space possible in you soft bag. He ensures everything is clean and ironed. Once folded he irons them flat - sometimes rolling but if they are ironed and folded correctly rolling is not always necessary.

Clothing To Pack for a Safari:

2 pairs khaki cotton pants (jeans are hot and uncomfortable)

2 pairs sturdy shorts

2 long sleeved light coloured shirts (for evenings help to keep the mosquitoes at bay).

1 light sweater or sweatshirt

1 lightweight, waterproof windbreaker

1 or 2 pair sturdy walking or hiking boots or running shoes [thick soles are essential as when walking in the bush there will many long sharp thorns]

3-5 short-sleeved shirts or T-shirts

5 changes underwear and socks

1 hat with a brim (baseball caps might cover your nose but not your ears and neck).

Please travel light. You should also bring a day pack to carry any essentials you might need whilst on safari. On safari most people wear shorts and a T-shirt during the day and put on long sleeved shirts and long pants in the evening for warmth as well as protection from mosquitoes.

Khaki, brown, olive and beige colours are best for and safaris and game walks.
White is not a suitable colour for these activities; they will get dirty with red/brown dust within minutes.

Fleece or sweater and a windbreaker for game drives, because it is highly possible that you may go out on a hot day, but be faced with a chill evening on your return. Some areas have a steep temperature gradient, i.e. Very hot days and very cool nights.
Remember that layering your clothing will keep you warmer than relying on one thick item.

Vacationing In Spain In A Benidorm Apartment

6:26 AM

There are over 200,000 apartments available in Benidorm, Spain, many of which serve as vacation rentals. Be sure to start your search at least six months in advance if you will be vacationing during the summer months. Benidorm apartments get booked quickly for that popular time of the year. This is a popular hotspot and only a one hour drive from the nearby vacation hotspot of Alicante city. You can search for apartments online and compare prices, location and amenities offered to best meet your family's vacation needs.

One benefit of renting a vacation apartment is its extra space. An apartment is often a better choice for those traveling with children or a larger group. The small kitchen allows you to prepare and eat some meals in your apartment. For example, you can eat breakfast in the apartment before heading out for the day. This saves money and provides a more relaxed morning..

In addition, staying in an apartment provides more privacy than a hotel and feels more like home. You have your own space to spread out and relax. Surprisingly, you may find that renting an apartment may actually be cheaper than a hotel. This is especially true for those longer stays. An apartment is a better deal when compared to the more luxurious hotels. Be sure to compare prices when researching a place to stay.

One way to find an apartment is to call a travel agent. An agent will have information on apartments available in the area. A real estate agent is another way to find an apartment for your vacation or, if anything they are a good source of information. The internet can also provide a wealth of information to help you find somewhere to stay in Benidorm. Apartments for rent can often be viewed on travel and real estate sites. Keep in mind that some owners rent directly in order to avoid the extra expense of commission, and some of that commission cost is passed on to the renter. Most of these owners advertise on the internet or in travel magazines.

During your search, there are certain things you should consider throughout the decision making process. You should consider the features and amenities you want in an apartment. For instance, some have a community pool which is a great amenity in the summer. The size of the kitchen is another feature to consider. What sizes is best for you depends on whether or not you plan to cook meals or just snacks or small meals. If you are traveling in the summer, you will probably want air conditioning in the apartment.

You should also consider the size of the apartment you need, which depends on the number of travelers. You want to ensure there is enough room for everyone to sleep and be comfortable during the day. Location should also be considered. An apartment near the beach will be best if you plan to spend a lot of time at the beach or enjoy water sports such as boating, fishing or diving.

Time Management Tips For Those In The Travel Industry

6:27 AM

If you improve your time management, you can improve your travel experiences and your travel business operations. So enjoy this brief layover with some short success tips from travel pros who know that time management requires basic management skills as well as learning more about timing issues.

Take the Helm - Just as a good ship's Captain takes charge of operations, you need to do so, too. No matter whether running your travel operations from out of your home or not, you still need to take charge. Plus it's equally important to be enthusiastic about your choices and travel ideas, because if you do not enjoy what you're doing you may either need a break - a travel break! - or to rethink your career strategy and what you're doing right now. Pros know that the more enthusiastic you are, the more you put into your client packages of yourself and the more you can get out of them.

Decision-Making Skill - You also need to make educated, prompt, firm decisions. Yes, you can change your mind, from time to time, but take a stand and make a decision, right or wrong. Don't let things get in the way and bog you down. Start by getting more organized with a good planning system like Franklin Covey's planners and planning software, compatible with Outlook and handheld unit so that you can prioritize tasks and actually complete them in a timely manner.

Be Neighbourly In Your Orlando Vacation Home

6:25 AM

People who choose to stay full time can have numerous reasons for doing so. They could be Disney employees thus enjoying the luxury of a very short journey time to work, since the majority of vacation rental villas are very well situated to access Walt Disney World and all it has to offer. Some residents own vacation homes in and around where they stay and they like to be close at hand to keep an eye on their property and look after their guests themselves. Others may have some kind of occupation related in some way to the hospitality/vacation industry. Then again you may just find some friendly folks who like the idea of having new and different neighbours every few weeks!

Having full time residents nearby can be a great thing. They very much enjoy visitors to their area and those who settle there full-time are well used to new neighbours every one or two weeks and are very friendly and keen to learn you are enjoying your stay and having a fabulous vacation.

Just generally walking about the resort your vacation villa is in, you are bound to pass some local residents who are always ready to greet you with a smile and genuinely wish you a 'nice day'. If you have questions about the local area or attractions, I am sure you will find them only too happy to help.

That said, since these people are resident full time, one should always be remember to be courteous to them whilst still making the most of your vacation.

Local residents need their sleep too!

Generally there are safety and courtesy rules in all residential areas for 'quiet times' at the pool. As a rule of thumb these tend to be 11pm-7am. One of the most tempting times to forget about these rules is for those visitors who have travelled from far away (e.g. U.K.) and need to make huge adjustments to time changes and body clocks. On the first morning of these guests' vacation, they will tend to waken very early and it is strongly advised to resist the urge to come straight down to the pool until it reaches what everyone would agree is a slightly more reasonable time.

Stay in a resort based vacation home

You will find a great many of Orlando vacation villas have been built in resorts that offer communal areas. These can include any combination of the following: a communal swimming pool (in addition to your very own private pool at your holiday villa); a games room; a fitness room; a shop; a caf?; basketball/volleyball courts; tennis courts; childrens play areas. Any of these areas offer the ideal opportunity to meet people from all over the world- both full time residents and other holidaymakers like you.

Showing your neighbours common courtesies will encourage them to extend a warm welcome when you return for another vacation at a later date and then your villa experience really will be like a 'home from home' since you already know the neighbours!

Choosing Airlines For Your Air Travel

6:26 AM

There are many different airlines in many different countries; some which fly internationally and there are those that do not. As far as here in the United States, there are an abundance of US airlines that fly all around the various parts of the world as well as most all points domestically.

For us here in the United States the major US airlines are all well known. Names like American, Delta, Northwest, TWA, Continental, etc are well know both here in the U.S. and abroad. And since these US airlines cover the bases of most travel plans both here and abroad you should have no trouble finding a US airline that can accomodate just about any travel plans whether they be locally (domestic) or foreign.

As you would expect with US airlines the domestic flights will be much cheaper that those that are intercontinental. So, it only stands to reason that a flight to Venice Italy is going to be more pricey than a flight to Venice, California. Most all of the US airlines will have similar pricing structures... but not the same so you'll want to peruse each of those that seem to fit your travel plans carefully.

If you become confused by all the options or would just rather have a travel agent book your flights for you, you will find that many of the US airlines will be able to accomodate your travel plans. Some of the US airlines will even have partnership deals and arrangements in conjunction with hotels, car rentals, and even other airlines that can sometimes even sweeten the deal for you.

These types of deals can really come into play if you are one that accumulates frequent flyer miles. By taking advantage of these partnerships that some of the US airlines have with various other companies you can come up with some great deals or at the very least enhance the travel deal you've already come across.

This also brings up the point that you should be mindful of your frequent flyer miles when you are looking at booking your flights. You always want to be on the look out and inquire into what you can use your miles for and what travel benefits they'll provide.

No matter if you are traveling across the country, or from one country to another the available options within the various US airlines and the packages they offer, you should be able to put together travel plans that both fit your needs and are affordable.

6:26 AM

As you devour this article, remember that the rest of it contains valuable information related to Vacation Home rentals and in some way related to Wisconsin cabin rentals, Maryland vacation home, county vacation home rental or lake home rentals for your reading pleasure.

If the home is on water well and septic, have them inspected by a professional. The best time to buy a vacation home is the first season after peak season. Many second home owners want to use it one-last-season, to then sell and have the carrying costs. Inventories of resale homes are greatest off-season and at reduced prices.

If you dream of owning a sunny villa in Italy, a cottage in Scotland or maybe a beach side apartment in the Caribbean, here are five essential tips to consider when looking for real estate overseas.

Once the decision is made to move forward, you need to figure out how much of a home you want and what type of home you can afford. The latter is a bit easier to quantify as most financial institutions prefer mortgage payments that are less than 29 of gross monthly income. However, if you have a good financial track record, banks will afford you some latitude. Obviously, lending rates are a crucial factor in this equation, especially if you go through the adjustable rate route. A word of caution: be careful of Adjustable Rate Mortgages that look particularly attractive in today's low interest rate environment as an up tick in rates could lead to a potentially unpleasant financial situation. Remember that buying now for a future retirement is a long term proposition and your new investment should appreciate with no financial carrying cost surprises.

Don't forget that if this article hasn't provided you with exact vacation home rentals information, you can use any of the main search engines on the Internet, like Ask Dot Com, to find the exact vacation home rentals information you need.

Owning a home, whether it be your first home, second home or a vacation property, can offer you significant tax advantages. When it comes to vacation or second homes, your tax advantages are dependent upon three things: how often you use your vacation home yourself, how often you rent it out, and how long it sits empty.

Nobody expects to be a victim of crime, but it does happen. By taking a little time to protect your home you can greatly reduce your chances of being a victim or make it easier to recover from a burglary.

Ask if the rental management requires your unit to offer clubhouse, pool and other amenities to seasonal renters as part of being in the rental program. Typically, these memberships are expensive and could be a hidden cost that reduces your profits. Meet and evaluate any personnel that manages these membership amenities.

We were thrilled to know that many people found this article about vacation home rentals and other international vacation homes, Buy a Home, and even Hayes vacation home rental helpful and information rich.

Hiking: Traveling Safely Through Challenging Terrain

6:26 AM

You can find package holidays to take you everywhere from a beach resort to a dude ranch to an outdoor wilderness adventure. If you anticipate traveling anytime soon and want to experience the great outdoors, you might want to consider hiking. If you are a beginner hiker, read some of the tips and techniques below to help get you started. Hiking is not simply a long walk.

Hiking through ordinary terrain requires that you maintain a steady pace for hours at a time, and do so with only short breaks each hour. This might not seem that bad, until you ad in creeks and steep, slipper slopes that can make hiking at a higher altitude seem nearly impossible. It surely isn't impossible, but it does require certain techniques that must be adjusted according to the conditions you are in.

Walking on ordinary level terrain is usually done at a speed of two to four miles per hour at which pace you can burn anywhere from 50-150 calories hourly. Additionally, you lose about one liter of fluid for every hour of hiking and even more during a hot climate. This fluid loss must be replenished to keep your body hydrated. But, when the conditions become more challenging, you often find yourself walking up steeper slopes and at high elevations causing more of a strain and requiring your heart to work harder.

The more challenging terrains tend to be the most beautiful, though. Would you rather stroll around some brush in ordinary terrain or hike up a thick forested mountain? But, the conditions up that thick forested mountainside require more from the hiker tackling it. Be sure to pace yourself and monitor your heart rate. Try to stay on the lower range of 70 to 120 beats per minute, the average rate at rest and then during a harder workout.

This can help you avoid what is sometimes called Acute Mountain Sickness or High Altitude Syndrome, among other terms. Just as high altitudes can present challenges, crossing rivers and lakes can as well. Along with strength, experience and technique can make it a lot easier also.

Finding quality boots is the first step, specifically a waterproof, high-top boot to keep your feet dry. This is a must to avoid foot problems.

As far as technique for such conditions, it's about experience, common sense and intelligence. For instance, avoid the temptation of fording a river when you do not need it. Undercurrents, cold temperatures and slippery bottoms are only a few of the dangers you could face. If possible, step on rocks in a stream rather than directly walking through the water. Or, take a bridge or walk around the lake rather than swimming through it.

These alternatives will actually save energy. You will have less fatigue with a longer walk than a cold, short swim. Remember, a lot of it is about common sense. Hiking in the great outdoors can be an amazing experience, but getting injured or becoming unwell should not be part of the experience.

Andalucia - white villages and flamenco

6:26 AM

Andalucia is the most populated and second largest of the seventeen autonomous communities that constitute Spain. Its capital is Seville and it is bordered on the north by Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha; on the east by Murcia and the Mediterranean Sea and on the west by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

The British colony of Gibraltar at the south shares its three-quarter-mile land border with the Andalusian province of C?diz.

Its varied landscapes, the stability of its climate with 3000 hours of sun per year and the friendly character of its population, have turned it into one of the most attractive and most visited regions.

Coastlines of fine sandy beaches characterize the provinces of Huelva and Cadiz, which face the Atlantic Ocean. The Mediterranean coast, from the Strait of Gibraltar to Almeria, on the other hand has a smoother climate with less wind and higher water temperatures.

Visitors to the region are spoiled for choice. From the golden beaches to those beautiful mountain ranges, and the famous 'white villages', the possibilities are endless. Sports lovers are well catered for here and anything from skiing in the Sierra Nevada to surfing at the coast of Cadiz can easily be found.

In Andalucia you will live the magic of Flamenco and bullfighting in their most authentic style, and myths like Don Juan and Carmen were born here. This is a land of great traditions, which has understood how to incorporate progress.

The Spanish spoken in the Americas is largely descended from the Andalusian dialect of Spanish due to the role played by Seville as the gateway to Spain's American territories in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Major Attractions in Andalucia

Seville: The Andalusian capital, the third largest city of Spain, is among the most beloved places by tourists, thanks to its unique ambience and its great monuments. The Arabian bell tower Giralda, the city's landmark, the enormous cathedral, Torre del Oro and the old district Barrio Santa Cruz are among the highlights.

Granada: The Moorish Jewel, located at the foot of snowy Sierra Nevada mountain range, is a must-see. Most outstanding is certainly the great Arabian palace Alhambra.

Cordoba: The long-time centre of Moorish Spain, Cordboa has monuments of outstanding importance. The Mezquita, the great Mosque, is perhaps, most impressive.

Malaga: Among its major attractions are the Moorish Alcazaba and the splendid Mediterranean coast. M?laga is also well known as being the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, the painter and sculptor.

Costa del Sol: The coast of Malaga is home to some of Spain's most impressive beaches. Among the most famous are in the towns of Marbella, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and San Pedro de Alcantara.

Ronda: In the middle of the bizarre mountain range Serran?a de Ronda, at the edge of a canyon of a depth of 120 metres, you will find Ronda - certainly one of the most incredible and beautiful towns in Spain.

Almeria: Almeria is among those Andalusian cities that have best preserved their Moorish heritage. The Costa de Almeria is also an area of great tourist attractions.

Cadiz: Cadiz is one of the oldest cities in Spain. It is fascinating for its typical Andalusian ambience with whitewashed houses and tropical vegetation. Compared with the spectacular nature of other carnival celebrations, the light-hearted fun and entertainment of the Carnival of Cadiz makes it a unique fiesta which is well worth getting to know.

Huelva: Huelva is of great importance as a fishing port as well as for its industry. Christopher Columbus, who started his travel to America from the nearby Palos de la Frontera, marks the city and its surroundings. There you may still visit the monastery where he prepared his travel, alongside with a reconstruction of the port and the three famous ships.

Do?ana National Park: This extensive preserve including beach areas with moving dunes as well as marshy regions of great value concerning their fauna is located next to the outlet of Guadalquivir River, Matalasca?as, Acebuche and El Rocio. Numerous species of migrant birds, on their way from Eurasia to Africa, stay here during the breeding phase.

Costa de la Luz: The 'Coast of the Light', in the provinces of Huelva and Cadiz at the Atlantic Ocean, offers splendid beaches of fine sand. Major centres of attraction are Punta Umbria, Islantilla, Isla Cristina, Mazagon, Matalasca?as, Barbate, Algeciras, Tarifa, Conil de la Frontera, Chiclana de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Rota, Chipiona and Sanlucar de Barrameda.

Jerez de la Frontera: In the hometown of the world-famous Sherry wine several 'Bodegas' may be visited. Jerez is the site of a renowned equestrian school. Wine and horses mark the ambience of this manorial town.

Jaen: Its medieval fortress dominates Jaen, which is located inland. Additional attractions are the 11th century Moorish baths and the Renaissance cathedral. The nearby Sierra de Cazorla is an outstanding nature reserve.

Andalusian Cuisine

Andaluc?an cuisine is characterized by gazpacho, fried fish, the jamones of Jabugo and Trev?lez and the wines of Jerez, particularly sherry.

Fried Foods:
Frying in Andalusian cuisine is dominated by the use of an olive oil that is produced in the provinces of Ja?n, C?rdoba, Seville and Granada. The foods are dredged in flour 'a la andaluza' (meaning only flour, without egg or other ingredients). They are then fried in a large quantity of hot olive oil.

Fish and Shellfish:
With five coastal provinces, the consumption of fish and shellfish is rather high: white shrimp from the Bay of C?diz; prawns; murex; anchovies; baby squid; cuttlefish, flounder, etc.

Desserts:
Andalusian deserts are heavily influenced by medieval Andalusian cuisine. Notable dishes include pesti?os (a deep-fried pastry bathed in honey), alfajores, amarguillos (a form of almond macaroons) from Medina Sidonia, the polvor?nes (almond cookies of Estepa), lard bread, wine doughnuts, churro (a fried-dough pastry-based snack) and torrijas.

Music of Andalusia

Andalusia is best known for flamenco, a form of music and dance that is mostly performed by Gypsy people and popular throughout the world.

Improvised flamenco songs of ancient Andalusian origin are called Cante Hondo and are characterized by a reduced tonal ambiance, a lack of rhythm and repetition of notes. A single singer performs Cante Hondo songs.

Travel Bermuda - Your Complete Information Guide To This Quintessential Island

6:26 AM

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, 570 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, lies an island filled with pink sand beaches, pastel cottages and quintessential British traditions. With a landmass of only 21 square miles, it is one of the smallest territories in the world. Bermuda actually consists of around 140 islands, of which 8 of these are linked by bridges to form a continuous fishhook shaped area of land that runs 22 miles in length and only 2 miles across at its widest point. This is the Bermuda that most everyone knows because the other islands are uninhabited and some are only rocks.

Bermuda is a different island in many ways from those that you generally think about such as the Caribbean. It is very polite and slightly restrained in the sense that you won't find laid-back locals wandering around barefoot and offering you pi?a coladas. It is somewhat formal in dress, as you'll see the female residents in stockings and heels and the men in jackets, ties, Bermuda shorts, and knee socks despite the beautiful weather. Golf and tennis are popular pastimes and you will find that most visitors, as well as Bermudians, are over 40. It is a wonderful and charming island that offers many things to see and do with great places to go.

Bermuda weather is very temperate, not too hot and not too cold. It is a semi-tropical island that doesn't have a rainy season and there is no one month that receives an excess of rain. Showers can be heavy at times but you'll find that the skies clear quickly and that it doesn't usually affect your outdoor plans. The temperature rarely rises above 85 F, (29.5 C) perfect for sun bathing, swimming and all water sports and there is always a cool breeze at night. May to October are the warmest months with an average high of 82 F and an average low of 74 F. The coldest part of the year runs from January to March with average highs of 69 F and lows 60 F.

The Department of Tourism promotes 2 seasons for Bermuda weather; summer's 'beach and sizzle' and winter's 'golf and spa.' In summer, the island is filled with activities; hotel barbecues and evening dances to set off your daytime sightseeing trips, and the public beaches never close. During the off-season which runs from Nov-Mar, you'll find that the pace slows down significantly. Some of the sightseeing, dive, snorkeling, and water-skiing boats are dry-docked and only taxis operate tours of the island. There are also a few hotels and restaurants that will close, although having said that, most hotels in Bermuda do stay open and you'll find the prices slashed up to 40%. This is a great time to travel with perfect weather for golf and tennis, you can still rent boats, tour the islands and the best part? You can travel Bermuda and take full advantage of the uncrowded beaches, shops, restaurants, and walking tours and totally enjoy the beautiful sunny days.

If you're looking to rent a car while you travel Bermuda, you are going to be out of luck, as there are no car rentals available there! You can get around with public buses, ferries, rent a moped or scooter, you can use taxis - or even hire a horse and carriage. The bus system is fantastic, running on schedule all day, although there is no late system. Exact change, tokens or tickets are required. Tokens can be purchased at some hotels and guest houses, sub-post offices, and at the Central Terminal in Hamilton on Church Street. You can also get multi-day Transportation Passes for three or seven days that allow for unlimited bus trips which will save you some money. Metered taxis can be found at the airport and most large hotels and they can also double as tour operators if you want to put together your own sightseeing tour of the island. Bermuda taxi operators are among the world's finest and their knowledge and commentary can make for an unforgettable tour. You can rent them by the day, hour or mile. All taxis are metered and the tariff is fixed by law so rates are the same for all: $4 for the first mile, $1.40 for each additional mile and higher rates after 10 pm. Ferries are a scenic way to get around and can sometimes be much faster than the bus. They connect Hamilton with Paget, Warwick and the Somerset/Dockyard area. Moped rentals are available by the 1/2 day, day, week and long-term. The cost varies according to length of rental and type of cycle. Horse and Carriage tours are a nice way to see Bermuda. By day the drivers will point out the sights, and for the evenings it is very romantic.

The currency here is the Bermuda dollar and it has a 1-1 ratio to the US dollar. Both currencies are equally accepted at all establishments but the US dollar is the currency of choice because unlike the Bermuda dollar, it's exchangeable everywhere in the world. Average room prices vary as such: Low - $100/120 Mid - $120/180 High - $200+, average meal prices are: Low - $5/10 Mid - $10/25 High - $25-30. All hotels in Bermuda are subject to a 7.25% hotel tax which is added to your bill at check-out and there is also a departure tax but this is included in the price of your air ticket. When it comes to tipping, most restaurants add a 15% service charge to your bill, so just check to see if it is there so that you don't end up tipping twice and of course, if it's not there, this is the average. Hotels also generally add a service charge and this is 10%. For taxis, a tip of around 10% is average.

Bermuda has more sights to see than you will be able to visit in a single vacation, here are a just a few of the highlights. Visit the awesome underground of Bermuda, with one of the highest concentrations of limestone caves in the world, it offers a dream world that has even been the inspiration for many creative achievements including Hensen Associates 'Fraggle Rock' muppets. Make sure to take a visit to the Crystal Caves or Leamington Caves, both are along the Harrington Sound Road. The Royal Naval Dockyard which began in 1809, can be seen today restored as an entertainment and shopping complex, with restaurants, crafts market, arts centre, Bermuda Maritime Museum, historic Commissioner's House, cinema, and the Clocktower shopping mall. The Botanical Gardens which feature over 1000 varieties of plant life spread out over 36 acres of landscape and are open all year from sunrise to sunset. Take time to visit the Bermuda Aquarium, Natural History Museum and Zoo where you can take self guided tours if you choose and learn about Bermuda's beginnings, whaling industry, captivating undersea exploration, and fragile environment. The aquarium, museum and zoo are internationally recognized as a centre for the preservation and reintroduction of threatened species.

If diving and snorkeling are your thing, you will find some 350 shipwrecks that are scattered among the reef formations, making it an ever changing, living museum under the sea. Another great way to see this amazing world is through a Glass Bottom Boat Tour, offered during the days and nights. And let's not forget the endless array of the beautiful Bermuda beaches. With their pink sand and limestone dunes, you will find that the beaches on the south-shore are more scenic than those on the north-shore. The most popular, also the most crowded by tourists and locals is Horseshoe Bay Beach. Your best bet is to pick up 'Bermuda's Guide to Beaches and Transportation,' a free publication available at most hotels and in all Visitors Service Bureaus. It combines map and bus/ferry schedules, showing you the locations of the beaches and how to reach them.

Whether you are looking to visit a bustling city like the capitol of Hamilton, which offers plenty of shopping and sightseeing during the day; dinner, drinks and dancing by night to a lazy day on the beach, to the World Heritage Site and historic Town of St. George; Bermuda will cater to all of your needs. It can be a relaxed vacation destination or an international business center. It is a mix of ancient and new worlds, friendly people and there are so many things for you to take part in and enjoy. Whatever your desire, Bermuda is sure to welcome you.'
